Elisa Araújo Cunha Carvalho Alvim
Associate Researcher
Graduated in Biological Sciences (licentiate / Bachelor) from the Catholic University of Brasília and Master in Ecology from the University of Brasília. He has experience in the field of Ecology, with an emphasis on Limnology, working mainly on the following subjects: benthic invertebrates as bioindicators of water quality; Decomposition of plant debris into aquatic ecosystems; The lotic and lotic ecosystems of the Cerrado; Biogeochemistry of natural lagoons of the Cerrado.
Francisco Diogo Rocha Sousa
Associate Researcher
I have a degree in Biological Sciences from the Catholic University of Brasilia (UCB), a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University of Brasilia (UnB) and a PhD in Animal Biodiversity from the Federal University of Santa Maria-RS (UFSM). I have experience in zoology, with emphasis on taxonomy and systematics of limnic cladocerans (Crustacea). I also have experience in aquatic ecology, working in limnology, community ecology with emphasis on the study of plankton and wetlands invertebrates. I am interested in the study of the ecology, taxonomy and systematics of large limmiological braniopods belonging to the taxa Laevicaudata, Spinicaudata and Cyclestherida (Crustacea), as well as transversal themes as in themes that are transversal to biodiversity, such as evolution and conservation. In addition to my interest in crustaceans and in the Cerrado, I am addicted to sports and in the leisure time, a lover of good craft beers.

Francisco Junior Simões Calaça
Master Student
Graduated in Biological Sciences (Teaching Diploma) from the University of Goiás (Campus of Exact and Technological Sciences, CCET, Anápolis). He develops research with the taxonomic and ecological diversity of Coprophiles Fungi of Central Brazil, acting mainly with Ascomycota: Pezizales and Sordariales, besides interest in Myxomycetes Fimícolas (distribution patterns and choice of substrates). He also works in the area of Scientific Illustration (Botany and Micológica, mainly) and in Primary Education, in the area of Science and Biology Teaching. Has experience in the areas of Basic Mycology, Fungo Coprophiles s.l. (Copromicology), Macromicetos of the Cerrado and Science Teaching, mainly in Mycology Teaching for undergraduate students and High School, in the development of alternative methodologies and related paradidactic materials. He is currently a student of the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Sciences of the University of Brasilia (Planaltina Campus / UnB). He is developing research with the composition and structure of communities of mycorrhizal and saprophytic fungi of soils under different Cerrado phytophysiognomies.

Iris Roitman
Associate Researcher
Senior Analyst of FINATEC in the Project for Environmental Regularization and Diagnosis of Agrarian Systems in the North Settlements of Mato Grosso) and Pequisadora of the Brazilian Network for Research on Climate Change – Climate Network, Land Use Subnet in the Carbon Mapping Project in Cerrado biology (DTI-A, CNPq scholarship category). She has experience in the area of Vegetation Ecology and Forest Engineering, with emphasis on Conservation of Wild Areas, working mainly in the areas of sampling, mathematical modeling, dynamics and vegetation recovery and biomass and carbon estimation. Forestry Engineer at the University of Brasília – UnB (2002), Master in Forestry Sciences at UnB (2005), Specialist in Geoprocessing at UnB (2007), PhD in Ecology at UnB (2011), with Sandwich period at Southern Cross University (Australia). She holds postdoctoral degrees in the area of degraded areas (2013-2014) (Laboratory of Ecology and Conservation, Embrapa Genetic Resources) and postdoctoral degree in Vegetation Dynamics and Recovery (University of Brasília). She worked as technical analyst of the Project on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Brazilian Biological Diversity – PROBIO / MMA, which was held at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). She has volunteered as Scientific Coordinator of Nursery-School Cerrado Vivo in Planaltina-DF (2014-2015).
José Maurício Brandão Quintão
Associate Researcher
Graduation in Biological Sciences by the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) and a Masters in Ecology from the University of Brasília (UnB). Experience in the areas of plant ecophysiology, limnology, ecology and conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Working in projects of university extension, linked to the teaching of sciences, environmental education and as advisor of students in the modality of distance learning. He is currently collaborator in the elaboration of the “Brazilian Diagnosis on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”.

José Salomão Oliveira Silva
Associate Researcher
Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Bahia (2001), a Masters in Ecology from the University of Brasília (2004) and a PhD in Ecology from the University of Brasília (2008). He developed researches in the Brazilian cerrado on water quality, changes in land use and invasion of exotic plant species (University of Brasília), as well as a study on greenhouse gas emission scenarios by Brazilian agriculture (Institute of Applied Economic Research). He also participated in projects in the areas of climate change, renewable energy, and human resources studies for science, technology and innovation (Center for Management and Strategic Studies). He was a member of the Interministerial Commission for the Coordination of the Ecological-Economic Zoning of the National Territory (Ministry of Cities).
Leticia Gomes da Silva
PhD Student
Graduated in Biological Sciences (2010) and Master in Ecology and Conservation (2013) from the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT). Has experience in the field of Ecology of Ecosystems, with emphasis in Fire Ecology. Acting mainly in the following subjects: Fire effects on vegetal communities of the Cerrado Biome in function of the temporal and spatial dynamics, resistance and resilience. Currently she is a Ecology PhD student from the University of Brasília (UnB) and guided by Profa. Dr. Mercedes Bustamante. The thesis consists of the ecological modeling of fires in the Cerrado Biome and its effects on plant and climatic compartments using System Dynamics. This research has been carried out in the Laboratory of Ecosystems (UnB) in partnership with the Fire Ecology Laboratory (UnB) and with the Remote Sensing Center (UFMG).

Lucas Costa
Master Student
He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Brasilia (UnB) and Monash University, Australia (exchange period). Has experience in the field of Ecology, with emphasis in Ecology of Ecosystems. He is currently a Fellow of the CNPq working on the INCT – Climatic Changes project, collecting and updating data on carbon stocks in the biomes, Mata Atlântica and Caatinga. In education he works as an educator at Escola da Árvore, Brasília. He loves the Cerrado and capoeira also likes to devote part of his leisure time by recording and sharing moments, ether through photography, verses or drawings.
Luísa G. Carvalheiro
Associate Researcher
She holds a degree in Biology, University of Lisboa, Portugal (2002) and PhD in Ecology (propagation of invasive species impacts by trophic networks), by Bristol University, UK (2008). She worked as a researcher (Research Fellow) at the University of Pretoria (2008-2010) and at the University of Leeds (2010-2014). She worked as a consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN, 2013). She is currently a Collaborative Researcher at the Department of Ecology of the University of Brasilia and an associate editor of the journal ‘Methods in Ecology and Evolution’ (British Ecological Society).
She has experience in the field of Ecology of Communities, working mainly on the following themes: spatial and temporal dynamics of communities and networks of ecological interactions, impacts of global environmental changes (eg land use, climate), ecosystem services (emphasis on pollination).
The main focus of the research at UnB is the study of the impacts of soil eutrophication on plant-pollinator networks, as well as the consequences for the preservation of natural ecosystems and pollination services. This work is being carried out in the Laboratory of Ecosystems of Profa. Mercedes Bustamante and involves the collaboration of an extensive network of international researchers

Rafaella Silveira Sousa
PhD Student
Licenciated in Biological Sciences from the Federal Institute of Goais – Campus Ceres (2013) and master’s degree from the Graduate Program in Microbial Biology, University of Brasília (2016). She has worked with microbial ecology of natural lentic aquatic systems of the Cerrado, metagenome and molecular techniques for studies of Bacteria and Archaea communities. She is currently a doctoral student in the same program, whose research will focus on the diversity of bacteria and fungi and the functional potential of bacterial groups involved in the nitrogen cycle in Cerrado soils subjected to fertilization.
Rodrigo Béllo Carvalho
Scientific Initiation Student
Undergraduate in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasília (UnB). He has experience in Ecology, with emphasis on Ecology of Cerrado Vegetation.
Main areas of interest: Animal Ecology – Vertebrates; Plant Ecology; Evolution; Mastozoology.
