The National Institute of Science and Technology for Climate Change (INCT-MC) is a comprehensive network of interdisciplinary research on climate change and relies on the cooperation of 90 research groups from 108 Brazilian and 18 foreign institutions and universities. It involves more than 400 researchers, students and technicians, constituting the largest environmental research network ever developed in Brazil.
The National Institutes of Science and Technology were created in 2008 by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). They are financed by CNPq, Capes and, in the case of those based in the State of São Paulo, by FAPESP. In all, there are 122 INCTs in 17 Brazilian states, covering most of the areas of Science and Technology.
The INCT for Climate Change is based at the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, and operates closely linked to other research networks on climate change. Firstly, it is directly associated to the CLIMA Network (Brazilian Network for Research on Climate Change), of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
