Terrestrial Ecosystems

terrestreGlobally known for its high biodiversity, the Cerrado have a vegetative mosaic with adaptations to seasonal water, fire and dystrophic soils.

The laboratory of Ecosystems has been investigating the biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus elements in different phytophysiognomies as well as the interactions between vegetation, microorganisms and the abiotic environment. The ecosystem consequences of changes resulting from land use and global environmental changes are also investigated in the Amazon biome and the transition between this and the Cerrado.
