The Brazilian Network for Research on Global Climate Change – Climate Network is an important pillar of support for the Research and Development activities of the National Climate Change Plan to respond national needs for knowledge on climate change, including the production of information for the formulation of public policies.

The Climate Network elaborates analyzes on the state of knowledge of climate change in Brazil, according to the IPCC reports, but with more specific sectoral approaches to subsidize the formulation of national and international public policies. Its scientific focus covers relevant issues of climate change, such as:

The scientific basis of climate change: detection and attribution of causes;

Understanding of natural variability versus climatic changes of anthropogenic origin;

Hydrological cycle and global biogeochemical cycles and aerosols; Modeling capacity of the climate system;

Impact, adaptation and vulnerability studies for relevant systems and sectors, such as: agriculture and forestry, water resources, biodiversity and ecosystems, coastal zones, cities, economy, renewable energy and health;
Development of knowledge and technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The Climate Network has national coverage, involving dozens of research groups in universities and institutes.

Land Uses

The Land Uses sub-network supports the elaboration of the 3rd National Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry, working on a bibliographical survey, consultation of experts, review of Values, elaboration of the carbon stock map of the Brazilian biomes, drafting of the Third National Communication and the Reference Report and the Third National Communication, auditing the emission calculations. Interdisciplinary work, based on published data.
